Q.
Will Pocket Zone work with The Fire Zone or is it just for accident reconstruction?

A. Pocket Zone is ideal for creating a pre-fire diagram at the scene using the Pace Mode feature. The Pace Mode method of drawing is fast and easy, using the length of your own stepping pace to map out the site. Next, open the Pocket Zone file in The Fire Zone for additional details and to view it in 3D.

Q.
Pocket Zone will not install correctly on my IPAC handheld computer.

A. Before running Pocket Zone on an IPAQ close out all other programs and reset the pocket pc. This will ensure there is sufficient memory.

Q.
I get a "Data Send Failed" error message in Pocket Zone when trying to send a shot. If you try to start a new file while shooting in Pocket Zone you have to re-select the laser device driver. Closing Pocket Zone or selecting "New" will disengage the com port.

A. The comm port on the Pocket PC is not active. Reset the pocket pc, open Pocket Zone and re-select the laser device driver.

Q.
Pocket Zone will not communicate with my device.

A. Make sure you don't have any software that's clogging up the comm port such as an external keypad program. If so, you need to open the keyboard software and click the "disable" box.

   b) Make sure you've selected the correct driver for your laser device.

   c) Make sure the communication settings on the laser device match the driver settings.

   d) Make sure your cable is plugged in correctly. Check your connections for bent prongs.

   e) Start up and zero set the laser device and then connect the Pocket PC and run Pocket Zone.

Q.
When using a Sokkia device, the download is not successful.

A. This usually means that the Baud rates do not match.  It needs to be the same on both their hardware and in the WCOMMS settings for the two to communicate. Use the "1200" baud rate as the default setting for both.

Q.
When using a Sokkia device I get a message telling me "No POS found" when trying to convert to an ASCII file.

A. The POS (positions) is not turned to the on position on the data collector. To turn it on, you need to have "Yes" for the POS setting on their data collector.

Q.
When using my Sokkia SDR31 I cannot find the raw data when trying to convert it with the Coordinate Data Table.

A. The SDR31 and Sokkia Card readers generate raw files without the required .sdr file extension. Using windows explorer navigate to this directory:

C:\Program Files\CAD Zone\Crash Zone 7\WCOMMS

Select the raw data file and rename it with the .sdr file extension. (Example: 403331.sdr)

Reopen the diagram program and convert the file using the SDR Download command from the File menu.

Q.
How do I prevent my data being lost if the batteries on my IPAC go dead?

A. It's always a good idea to install the Pocket Zone to a flash card (Storage Card) on devices such as IPAQ's that will lose data with a hard re-boot or when the batteries die.

Install Pocket Zone in the Main Memory and run it from there. Also install or copy the Pocket Zone executable to the Storage Card. If you lose the program from Main Memory, simply copy it from the Storage Card back to Main Memory.

The program is usually run from My Device\Program Files\Pocket Zone

There is concern that Flash, SanDisk, Storage cards that are over 128M are unstable. This would include 256M, 512M, and higher. So, we recommend you use cards no greater than 128M.

Many of the newer Pocket PC's are including more permanent storage built in to the device. This would resolve the issue of using an external storage card.

Q.
I need to reinstall my Pocket Zone, but it won't install correctly.

A. You will need to first uninstall Pocket Zone completely and then reinstall it. You should uninstall Pocket Zone from your desktop or laptop computer. This is the computer you sync to your pocket pc with. A small "kernel" of Pocket Zone is installed on the computer used to install to the handheld device.

On the Desktop or Laptop PC, go to "Add/Remove" programs from your Control Panel (Start Menu). Find Pocket Zone on the list, select it, then uninstall it.

Next uninstall Pocket Zone on your Pocket PC

Click on Start (pull-down).

Select Settings.

Click on the System tab.

Select Remove Programs.

Select and Remove the Pocket Zone program.

Next, go to Start, Programs, and File Explorer

Go to the Windows folder

Go to the AppMgr folder

Hold down your stylus on any CAD Zone / Pocket Zone files and delete.

Reset your Pocket PC, Sync to desktop, Install Pocket Zone

Once you've installed your latest version of Pocket Zone you should create a backup of your handheld files. Backup your pocket pc in case of a power failure (dead batteries). If you don't back-up your system you may lose Pocket Zone and all of your collected data. You will have to re-install Pocket Zone. You will also have to re-enter your access key.

Your handheld will have a "backup" utility under the Programs or System directory. See the your handheld computers user's manual for instruction on using the backup utility.
