· The HazMat Screen

Use this screen to list information about any hazardous materials stored at the site. You can enter as many hazmat items as you wish. You can also enter the standard DOT ID number and Guide number.  Entries are listed in the order that they were entered rather than alphabetical order, so be sure to enter the most important data first!

The HazMat Screen in Edit Mode

Clicking the Hazard Type button on the HazMat information screen allows you to select from an alphabetical list of hazardous materials. Two methods of searching are available; “Starts With” or “Contains”

The “Starts With” search method

In this method, typing in the search box navigates the list to the first material on the list that begins with the letters typed.

With the Starts With radial button selected, click in the Search field and type, for example: Chlorine

When Chlorine shows up in the HazMat list, double click on it or click Select to add it to the HazMat type field on the Edit Mode HazMat screen.

Note: Click Cancel to close the HazMat Search screen without adding a material to the Hazardous Information screen.

The “Contains” search Method

In this method a key word in typed into the search field and search navigates to the first material containing the key word. Clicking “Next” automatically scrolls to the next material containing the keyword, and so on until the end of the materials list is met.

For example, with the Contains radial button selected; type “sulfa” in the search field. Search scrolls the list to the first material containing the key word “sulfa”.

If this is not the correct hazardous material click the Next button, and search scrolls to the next material that contains the keyword.

When you reach the desired hazardous material, double click on it or click Select to add it to the HazMat Type field on the Edit Mode screen.

The View Mode HazMat screen shows a summary of all the HazMat records in a tabular format.  Click on any HazMat item in the table and then click the Guide# button to see the related DOT Handbook information.

The HazMat Screen in View Mode

For example, clicking on “Calcium hydrosulfite” in the list displays Guide Number #135. When the Guide # button is clicked, the DOT HazMat manual is loaded on the screen with the related information for materials #135 displayed.

The HazMat Screen automatically alerts you if the selected chemical has any reactivity to water suppression or has any I/PD issues by “red-lighting” these items in the details area or at the top of the Emergency Response Guidebook view.

If you press the H2O/React or I/PD buttons in the Guidebook view, the H2O/React or I/PD information will be displayed for you.
