Lesson 9 - Using The HazMat Screen

The HazMat form is used to enter the HazMat information related to the occupancy. Entries are listed in the order that they were entered rather than alphabetical order, so be sure to enter the most important data first!

Click on the HazMat button to open the HazMat form.

Click the HazMat Type button to open the HazMat search engine.

Click the “Starts With” radial button.

Click in the HazMat search field and type: Chlorine

When Chlorine shows up in the HazMat list, double click on it to add it to the HazMat type field on the HazMat form.

Note that the related DOT and Guide# ID numbers are also added to the form when the HazMat material is selected. The H2O and I/PD indicators are also automatically selected when applicable.

Finish the form by entering the following in the remaining fields:

Location: Pool Building

Quantity: 30 Gal

Since this record has multiple HazMat entries associated with it we will need to add another entry at this point.

Click the “Add Record” icon  located on the navigation toolbar and enter the following information on the form:

HazMat Type: Isopropyl Alcohol

ID #: 1219

Guide #: 129

Location: Storage Rm 2-B

Quantity: 10 Gal

Next save the information entered into the HazMat form by clicking the Save Record (Diskette) icon.

The DOT Hazards Manual

Click on any Hazards item in the table and click the Guide # button to see the related DOT Handbook information displayed. For example, when the Hazards item “Gasses Toxic” is selected from the Hazards pull-down menu, a Guide Number of #124 is displayed.

When the Guide button is clicked the DOT Hazards manual is loaded on the screen with the related information for material #124 displayed. The Hazards screen also alerts you if the selected chemical has any reactivity to water suppression or has any I/PD issues by automatically “red-lighting” these items in the details area, or at the top of the Emergency Response Guidebook view. If you press the H2O/React or I/PD buttons in the Guide Book View, the information will be displayed for you.

The HazMat Screen in View Mode

In View Mode the HazMat screen looks different than it did in Edit Mode. In Edit Mode, since you just enter one child record (one location) at a time that was all that was shown on the screen. This works fine for entering data, but it is not the best way to display your data. Therefore, in View Mode a summary table of all the child records is shown on the screen. Refer to Lesson 12 “The Record in View Mode" for more details.
